Langstone Primary School is a highly effective, child centred learning organisation where all are valued, supported and challenged to achieve their aspirations. We strongly believe in our inclusive culture where ‘Learning Promotes Success’ and well-being is at the heart of our school family.
We aim to provide a positive ethos and a happy, safe, secure and stimulating learning environment in which all members of the school community can grow in confidence and self-esteem and develop their potential as human beings and responsible citizens. Langstone Primary School is an inclusive school, where all are valued equally, and our similarities and differences are recognised and celebrated. Every child, regardless of race, creed, age, gender or disability has access to the curriculum at a level appropriate to their individual needs, in order that every child may experience success and satisfaction through their participation in learning.
Our aim is to ensure that children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) receive the variety of learning opportunities which are offered to all children, including maximum possible access to statutory education, whilst ensuring that all children are appropriately challenged and supported. We work in partnership with parents and other agencies, to meet these needs in the most appropriate, positive and effective manner.

Additional Learning Needs Transformation in Wales
The system for supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disability in Wales is changing. The Welsh Government is bringing in a new more flexible and responsive system of meeting the needs of children with special educational needs or disabilities and are striving to deliver a fully inclusive education system for the learners of Wales.
The new system will ensure:
needs are identified early, addressed quickly and all learners are supported to reach their potential.
our professionals are skilled and confident in identifying needs and deploying strategies to help learners overcome their barriers to learning.
that the learner is at the centre of everything we do and that they and their parents and carers are equal partners in their learning..
September 2021 will see the commencement, on a phased basis, of the new Additional Learning Needs (ALN) system for Wales which will be brought in gradually over the next few years (2021-2024). The new system transforms the existing separate systems for special educational needs (SEN) in schools and learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD) in further education, to create a unified system for supporting learners from 0 to 25 with ALN.
The Welsh Government has published a new interactive training course which will help all those involved in the system understand the new legislative duties, and the rights it confers to children, their parents/carers, and young people.
The course takes between approximately 40 and 60 minutes to complete. This course may be of interest to parents and carers.
